To celebrate the Town of Gander’s 50th Anniversary, 9 Wing Gander will be hosting Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 21, 2008, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be a number of displays, including HMCS Cabot, 103 Search and Rescue, Military Vehicles, 91 Airfield Engineers, 5 CRPG and the Gander Military Family Resource Centre “Support our Troops” booth. There will also be an aerial display by the Cormorant, a Teddy Bear Clinic, performance by the 537 RCACS Band and Camouflage Face Painting! Admission is free and refreshments are available! The Town of Gander will be holding a Household Hazardous Waste Day at the Elizabeth Drive Shopping Centre on Sunday, June 1, 2008. This service is free to all residents of Gander for household products. Get the hazardous waste out of your house and help the environment as all products will be recycled. The Town of Gander Spring Clean-up will take place during the two weeks of May 5-16, inclusive. The Spring Clean-up system is as follows: 1. Under this system, each street will be completed twice during the Spring Clean-up period. 2. Clean-up refuse will be picked up the day of your scheduled household garbage collection. 3. Please do not mix household refuse with clean-up. 4. Please do not put out refuse before or after the designated dates for the Clean-up. 5. To have car wrecks removed, please call the Public Works Department at 651-5938. 6. All loose material (pieces of lumber, glass, gyproc, etc.) must be in appropriate containers and branches and tree limbs must be tied in bundles (maximum of 5 foot lengths) for disposal. 7. Rocks, gravel or concrete will not be removed. 8. Hazardous waste such as propane cylinders, paint, pesticides, oil, etc., will not be collected but should be dropped off at the Elizabeth Drive Shopping Centre, during Household Hazardous Waste Day which will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2008. 9. Tires will not be collected but should be recycled by returning them to a local garage or tire retailer. Motorists are advised that snow clearing regulations will be enforced through April 30, 2008. During this time, no vehicle shall be parked on any street between midnight and 8 a.m., regardless of weather conditions, nor may any vehicle be parked such as to impede or interfere with snow clearing operations at any time of the day or night, at any time of the year. Take notice that the Town of Gander Municipal Plan Amendment No. 16, 2007, and Development Regulations Amendment No. 21, 2007, adopted on the 8th day of August, 2007, and approved on the 12th day of December, 2007, has been registered by the Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs. In general terms, the purpose of Municipal Plan Amendment No. 16, 2007, is to re-designate a parcel of land, approximately 800 square metres in size, located at the rear of 368 Gander Bay Road, from Rural (R) to Residential (RES). In general terms, the purpose of Development Regulations Amendment No. 21, 2007, is to re-zone the same parcel of land from Rural (R) to Rural Residential (RR). The Gander Municipal Plan Amendment No. 16, 2007, and Development Regulations Amendment No. 21, 2007, come into effect on the day that this notice is published in the Newfoundland Gazette. The Town Council of Gander has adopted the Gander Municipal Plan Amendment No. 18, 2007, and Development Regulations Amendment No. 22, 2007 which proposes to re-zone a block of land, adjacent Raynham Avenue, from Open Space Recreation (OSR) to Commercial Light Industrial (CLI). The re-zoning will permit the construction of a Fire Hall.
