DISCRETIONARY NOTICE - 289 ELIZABETH DRIVE

Notice is hereby given that the Town Council of Gander has received an application from Ivan Wicks and Stephanie King to construct and occupy an apartment above the existing building at the above noted address.

It is noted that Apartments (over permitted uses) are permitted as a discretionary use in a Commercial Local zone under the Town of Gander Development Regulations.

Anyone wishing to make representation on this matter must do so in writing and the representation must be received by the Engineering Department, Town of Gander, no later than 4 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010. VARIANCE - 17 & 19 RUSSELL STREET

Notice is hereby given that the Town Council of Gander has received an application from McCurdy Enterprises Ltd. to construct two (2) double dwellings (duplexes) at civic addresses 17 & 19 (lot #s 171 & 172) Russell Street.

The lot sizes for the proposed buildings are 730 and 766 square metres, respectively. This proposed lot area is less than the requirement by the Town of Gander Development Regulations for double dwellings in a residential zone. It is noted that this area of town is zoned Residential Medium Density and has a minimum lot area of 390 square metres per dwelling unit for double dwellings. The total combined lot area required is 780 square metres. The proposal will not meet the minimum required standard.

Anyone wishing to make representation on this matter must do so in writing and the representation must be received by the Engineering Department, Town of Gander, no later than 4 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010. REPORT POT HOLES

Posted: February 24, 2010

Residents are advised that with the recent fluctuations in temperature, water is sometimes running on our streets and sidewalks, ground is softening and asphalt is breaking apart. Public Works crews are working around the clock patching pot holes, clearing ice from catch basins and thawing hydrants and storm lines, and sidewalks are being sanded daily as required.

Residents who may notice a pot hole are asked to notify the Municipal Works Department by telephone at 651-5938, or online by clicking here.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution when driving through areas of accumulated water because of the possibility of concealed pot holes and to avoid splashing pedestrians who may be walking nearby.

Please note the following changes to residential garbage collection for holidays during 2010. The municipal landfill will also be closed on each of these holidays.

SNOW CLEARING REGULATIONS

Motorists are advised that Town of Gander snow clearing regulations remain in effect from November 1, 2009, through April 30, 2010. During this time, no vehicle shall be parked on any street between midnight and 8 a.m., regardless of weather conditions, nor may any vehicle be parked such as to impede or interfere with snow clearing operations at any time of the day or night, at any time of the year.

Citizens are also reminded that it is illegal to throw, sweep, shovel or place snow or ice from any private property upon any Town street or sidewalk.

GARBAGE NETS

Posted: April 03, 2006

Residents are urged to protect garbage placed for curbside collection from birds and animals. Suggested methods are:

• Cover garbage with a piece of carpet, tarp, or similar material which will be left for re-use.
• Use garbage cans.
• Use “Fling-It Garbage Nets” available for purchase from Broadening Horizons Recycling.

Residents are reminded that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to clean up any garbage remaining after curbside collection.

REFUSE DISPOSAL METHODS

Residents are reminded of the safe disposal methods that must be followed for the following materials:

  • Needles must be in a container such as steel or heavy plastic that will prevent accidental puncture to those collecting it.

  • Hot coals/ashes must not be put out for collection.

  • Broken glass should be placed in a separate container and marked as such.

PROBLEMS WITH VANDALISM

The Town of Gander continues to experience vandalism of traffic signs, fire hydrant markers, playground equipment, and town-owned buildings.  This is very costly to tax payers and can also lead to serious injury.  The Town of Gander is now a member of the "Crime Stoppers" organization and all citizens are asked to report any vandalism which they may witness or have knowledge of to "Crime Stoppers".  The Town of Gander will not tolerate vandalism and every effort will be made to eliminate it. Information can be made anonymously to "Crime Stoppers" at: 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
