DISCRETIONARY NOTICE - 16 GRIFFIN PLACE

Notice is hereby given that Council has received an application from Baker’s Mobile Lab Services to operate a business office from 16 Griffin Place. It is noted that home occupation is permitted as a discretionary use for the zone in which this property is located. In accordance with the Town of Gander’s Home Based Regulations, there will be no customer visits to the home.

Anyone wishing to make representation on this matter must do so in writing prior to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY - FRASER ROAD

Residents of Gander and the motoring public are advised that a speed hump has been installed across both lanes of Fraser Road adjacent to Gander Academy.

Motorists are urged to reduce speed and drive with extreme caution when approaching this or any school zone.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY - AIRPORT BOULEVARD

Residents of Gander and the motoring public are advised that major road re-construction is being carried out on Airport Boulevard, from Elizabeth Drive to Bennett Drive.

Motorists are asked to take an alternate route if possible, or to expect and plan for delays in this area, until construction has been completed. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated.

Please note the following changes to residential garbage collection for holidays during 2010. The municipal landfill will also be closed on each of these holidays.

Friday, April 2, 2010 (Good Friday)
Friday’s garbage route will be collected on Monday, April 5

Monday, May 24, 2010 (Victoria Day)
Monday’s garbage route will be collected on Tuesday, May 25

Thursday, July 1, 2010 (Canada Day)
Thursday’s garbage route will be collected on Friday, July 2

Monday, August 2, 2010 (Gander Day)
Monday’s garbage route will be collected on Tuesday, August 3

Monday, September 6, 2010 (Labour Day)

GARBAGE NETS

Residents are urged to protect garbage placed for curbside collection from birds and animals. Suggested methods are:

• Cover garbage with a piece of carpet, tarp, or similar material which will be left for re-use.
• Use garbage cans.
• Use “Fling-It Garbage Nets” available for purchase from Broadening Horizons Recycling.

Residents are reminded that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to clean up any garbage remaining after curbside collection.

REFUSE DISPOSAL METHODS

Residents are reminded of the safe disposal methods that must be followed for the following materials:

  • Needles must be in a container such as steel or heavy plastic that will prevent accidental puncture to those collecting it.

  • Hot coals/ashes must not be put out for collection.

  • Broken glass should be placed in a separate container and marked as such.

PROBLEMS WITH VANDALISM

The Town of Gander continues to experience vandalism of traffic signs, fire hydrant markers, playground equipment, and town-owned buildings.  This is very costly to tax payers and can also lead to serious injury.  The Town of Gander is now a member of the "Crime Stoppers" organization and all citizens are asked to report any vandalism which they may witness or have knowledge of to "Crime Stoppers".  The Town of Gander will not tolerate vandalism and every effort will be made to eliminate it. Information can be made anonymously to "Crime Stoppers" at: 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
