Buyer – Competition # TOG2017-019

The Town of Gander is now accepting applications for a permanent full-time Buyer.  Reporting to the Supervisor of Infrastructure and Planning, the Buyer is directly responsible for researching and purchasing items required for Town departments.  This individual strives to ensure the best possible pricing is achieved for all purchases while adhering to Town’s Purchasing Policy.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITY

Prepares requisitions and generates purchase orders including following up with vendors/carriers to ensure on time delivery; prepares request for quotes; responsible for receipt and matching of invoices in the town’s purchasing system and resolving any shortages or discrepancies relating to vendors in a timely manner; create and build supplier relationships to ensure competitiveness of existing vendors; set up freight rates with various carriers depending on the services required to ensure the most cost efficient transportation is being used; monitor, investigate and resolve problems relating to purchasing issues; orders items that guarantee optimal stock levels and meets minimum / maximum requirements; ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a professional and positive attitude; adheres to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures; responds to work groups, supervisors and the public in a polite, informative, caring and effective manner; performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIRED

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary program in business or accounting with a minimum two (2) years purchasing experience. A combination of education and work experience may be considered; strong knowledge of internal controls; knowledge of parts and tools associated with various types of equipment; completion of some supply chain management would be considered an asset; proficient in MS Office (Word and Excel).

OTHER SKILLS

Experience with ordering, shipping and receiving of goods and services; excellent customer service, communication, time management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of workload while maintaining a professional and positive attitude; ability to pay close attention to detail by ensuring a high level of accuracy and strong analytical skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to adjust to changing priorities; must be Bondable and provide a Certificate of Conduct; must hold a valid Driver’s License.

SALARY: $23.99 per hour/40 hours per week
