Walking Track Motto

The Steele Community Centre is a multifaceted facility, and we strive to accommodate the many different needs of our patrons, therefore, we would ask that you be respectful of everyone's varying activities. The exercise track guidelines were developed to enhance the enjoyment and safety of all its participants. We welcome your comments.

  • Proper Footwear
    Patrons are asked to change from street wear to proper footwear when using the track.
  • Clothing/Personal Belongings
    We recommend the use of the coat rack and suggest that personal belongings or valuables not be brought to the facility or left unattended. The Steele Community Centre is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal items.
  • Cancellation Policy
    The Steele Community Centre administration reserves the right to change the track schedule when deemed necessary. Timely notification of changes will be given to patrons, please check the notice board daily or call the Community Centre schedule line at 651-5946.
  • Safety & Etiquette
    Please be considerate of other patrons using the building and run under control at all times. The Steele Community Centre offers many shared uses and safety is what drives these guidelines. All activities at the Community Centre will be at one's own risk.
  • Please adhere to the direction of the day. Check the schedule on the information board. Slower traffic should stay in the lane closest to the arena seats. Faster traffic (joggers, runners, etc.) should be moving in the opposite direction to try and alleviate flow problems.
  • Please do not walk, jog or run more than two abreast as this impedes the safe and smooth movement of the participants. Persons pushing strollers must remain in single file for the safety of the infant and themselves. No running with strollers is permitted.
  • In the interest of safety, NO PETS are permitted. Spitting or spouting of water is NOT permitted.
  • Inline skating or spiked footwear is NOT permitted.
  • Music
    The Centre will provide music but individual preferences will have to be supplied by patrons, i.e., personal music with headphones.
  • Warm Ups/Cool Downs Stretching Areas
    Must take place by the wheelchair accessible areas or the section between the cafeteria and washrooms on Level 2.
  • Washrooms & Water Fountains
    Washrooms/water fountains are located at the north end on Level 2 and at Concourse area Level 1.
  • Track Distance
    (640ft. mid-line .2km)(5 laps is approximately 1km) Please use Start/Finish mark to initiate exercise program.
  • Emergency Procedures
    Please check the notice board for emergency procedures. For ambulance service dial 651-2111.
  • Pre-Arranged Group Sessions
    Check with the Centre Administration located on Level 2 or call 651-5927. Joggers groups, etc. the Centre must have 3 days prior notice.
  • Specialized Needs Request
    Please check with the Centre Administration Office.

Faster traffic (runners, joggers, etc.) are to run in the opposite direction to alleviate flow problems. Please call the daily schedule line at 651-5946 for an updated walking track schedule due to changes that may occur for special events or building maintenance.
