The Town of Gander pays by weight for the collection and disposal of waste under contract with the Central Waste Management Authority. Council therefore supports and encourages all initiatives promoting the principles of reduction, reuse and recycling.
Broadening Horizons Recycling
Broadening Horizons Recycling is a not-for-profit organization offering curbside and commercial collections of beverage containers, paper products and cardboard to residents and businesses of Gander. The program employs adult clients of VON Broadening Horizons day program who have intellectual disabilities, providing them with the personal and financial benefits of full-time or part-time employment, while encouraging greater participation in recycling throughout the community. Scotia Recycling
Scotia Recycling is a private company that provides a collection service of a wide range of materials including, but not limited to, beverage containers, newspaper, cardboard, and plastic film. Scotia Recycling also works with major retailers, providing and servicing onsite balers to maximize commercial recycling, and hosts the VON Broadening Horizons Recycling curbside collection program.

Metals, including large appliances made mostly of metal, may be dropped off during normal business hours at the Central Metals collection and recycling facility at 53 McCurdy Drive.

Cell Phones
Old or unwanted cell phones, smartphones and accessories such as rechargeable cell phone batteries and chargers may be dropped off at GBS Communications Inc. (Telus) in the Gander Mall or at The Source located on Roe Avenue.
Computers & Other Electronics
Non-cellular phones and televisions, along with home, personal or automotive audio/video systems, desktop or portable computers, and peripherals including printers and monitors, may be dropped off at the Scotia Recycling Green Depot on Garrett Drive.
Paint
Paint is collected by both the Scotia Recycling Green Depot on Garrett Drive and Aylwards Home Hardware Building Centre at 138 Bennett Drive.
