Parks and Playgrounds

Listed below are many of the sports and park facilities maintained by both the Town and private organizations. The Town maintains the 3 ballfields located in the Field Complex. As well, the Town of Gander has 2 soccer pitches located behind Gander Academy with access to the field and parking area from Sullivan Avenue. These fields are designed to facilitate a number of functions such as local soccer leagues, rugby, touch football, and a variety of other community and school-based activities. You can also view a list of the current Sports & Youth Clubs

These facilities are maintained and controlled by the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department under the auspices of the Town of Gander. Information concerning field or facility bookings can be acquired by contacting the Parks & Recreation Department at 709-651-5927.

Lions Club Splash Pad

Located at the corner of Elizabeth Drive and Memorial Drive as part of the Recreation Field Complex, the Splash Pad is a community project of the Gander Lions Club, in partnership with the Gander Consumers Co-op Society and the Town of Gander. It operates, weather permitting, from 10 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week throughout the summer months. Bathroom and change facilities are available.

Playgrounds

There are a number of playgrounds and tot lots throughout the Town of Gander. These play areas house up-to-date and safe equipment and are located on: Elizabeth Drive, Edinburgh Avenue, Nungessor Avenue, Magee Road (Cobb's Pond), Raynham Avenue, and Gordon Street.

Skate Park

Grind, Flip and Ollie. Gander has an outdoor skateboard park which was officially opened in September 2006. Located at the Field Complex on the corner of Memorial Drive and Elizabeth Drive, this park has a Quarter Pipe, Pyramid, Grind Rail and much more! The park is open daily, spring to fall. Helmets are mandatory and scooters are welcome.

Golf Course & Range

Originally designed as a 9-hole course, this beautiful Par 70 is now one of the most challenging yet scenic 18-holes in Newfoundland and Labrador. Set on the rolling hills of the Gander Lake, this course provides you with large, sculpted greens surrounded by large, deep, strategically placed sand traps. A modern clubhouse with a full restaurant and bar overlooking the lake provides a relaxing setting once you complete a round. Gander Golf Club

Gander Tennis Association

Located at 101 Memorial Drive as part of the Field Complex. The Gander Community Tennis Association houses 4 courts. Plans are underway for a future indoor court as well. Gander Tennis

Swimming Pools

There is currently 1 pool in Gander. Located in the Arts and Culture Centre is a 25m long Olympic-size indoor heated swimming pool, with viewing area. Gander Pool

Softball & Baseball

On the corner of Elizabeth Drive and Memorial Drive at the Field Complex there are 3 softball pitches (1 of the softball fields is lighted), and a baseball diamond.

Gander Curling Club

The Gander Curling Club is located on Airport Boulevard and has 4 sheets of ice for the sports minded curler. A beautiful club, which also has a lounge and dance floor, the Gander Curling Club hosts many bonspiels which are available for participation throughout the season.

Gander Rod & Gun Club

We have a certified shooting range and registered non-profit outdoors-oriented organization. Facilities include a certified 100m rifle/pistol range, trap (shotgun) field, archery range and a clubhouse facility. Visit Website

Airport Nordic Ski Club

Located 3km west of Gander on the Trans-Canada Highway, the Airport Nordic Ski Club has 16km of groomed trails suitable for all levels of skiers and snowshoers and 6km of ungroomed snowshoe trails. 3km of trails are lighted for night skiing. Skiers can purchase memberships or pay day use fees. Visit Website

The Town of Gander has 2 soccer pitches located behind Gander Academy with access to the field and parking area from Sullivan Avenue. These fields are designed to facilitate a number of functions such as; local soccer leagues, rugby, touch football, and a variety of other community and school based activities.

Outdoor Ball Hockey / Basketball Court

This fenced in blacktop lot on Airport Boulevard is a perfect area for a game of pick-up basketball or hockey.
