Municipal Enforcement

The Town's Municipal Enforcement Officers has the powers of a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary with respect to the enforcement of the Municipalities Act and regulations made within the Town of Gander boundaries. All officers are also appointed Inspectors under the NL Animal Health and Protection Act which help provide further animal control services.

Duties include:

  • Traffic enforcement (moving and non-moving violations)
  • Traffic and crowd control for Gander Fire Rescue scenes.
  • School safety monitoring
  • Protection of homes and businesses  
  • Animal control services
  • Public relations/education

The Municipal Enforcement Department's office is located at the Fire Hall, 85 Raynham Avenue and consist of two officers. The department have a long history of providing on the job training for cadets enrolled at the Holland College Police Academy and have found it to be very successful.

RCMP

The RCMP detachment is located at 450 James Blvd. Its detachment's jurisdiction includes the Town of Gander, the region west to the Glenwood overpass, east to the Gambo overpass and North of Gander. The Gander office also includes several specialist units.

Military Police

The Military Police in Gander are located at 116 Washington Blvd and are formally 29 Military Police Flight (Gander). Military Police exercise jurisdiction over all military and defense property and persons subject to military law; in doing so Military Police act with the same powers as an RCMP officer. 29 Military Police Flight are responsible for providing military policing to Gander as well as the entire island of Newfoundland,
less the Avalon Peninsula.
