Policy Development and Amendments

The Town of Gander has completed the first reading of the Policy Development and Amendments policy.  

We invite the residents of Gander to review and provide feedback on this policy for consideration before the final reading on October 23, 2024.  Anyone wishing to submit feedback must do so in writing prior to October 16, 2024.

Public Hearing

The Town Council of Gander has adopted the Gander Municipal Plan Amendment No. 5, 2024 and Development Regulations Amendment No. 7, 2024. It is Council’s intention to add Apartment Building and Apartments Over Permitted Uses to the Discretionary Use Classes of the Commercial Shopping Centre (CSC) zone.

A Public Hearing to consider objections and representations on the Municipal Plan and Development Regulations amendment is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers at the Gander Town Hall, Gander, NL.

Water Main Flushing

The Town of Gander is advising residents that the systematic flushing of all main water lines will start September 3, 2024, and will continue until November 15, 2024. This will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

During this period, residents may experience fluctuating water pressure, discoloration, or debris in the water lines. If this occurs, run the water until clear, then remove faucet aerators and carefully flush any debris from screens and washers, ensuring that all parts are reassembled in the correct order and orientation.

It is not recommended to wash laundry between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to avoid the possibility of staining.

The purpose of this flushing is to provide a higher quality of water.

Cooper Boulevard Roundabout Construction

The Town of Gander is excited to announce that construction has begun for a new roundabout at the intersection of Cooper Boulevard and Memorial Drive.
Why a Roundabout?
This initiative comes in response to increased traffic on Cooper Boulevard, with funding allocated during the 2024 budget process. A comprehensive report by traffic engineers recommended the roundabout as the best solution to improve long-term safety at this busy intersection. The project is cost-shared through the provincial Multi-Year Capital Works funding program.
