WATER SHUT OFF & TRAFFIC ADVISORY: September 3, 2026

Please be advised that there will be a water shut off tomorrow, September 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., affecting the following addresses:

109–175 Airport Boulevard
4–10 Lindbergh Street

A traffic advisory will also be in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 111 Airport Boulevard.

During this time, Boyd Street will be restricted to local traffic only.

Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and follow all posted signage.

Please be advised that the Steele Community Centre will be closed tomorrow, September 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to a water service interruption.

Your feedback will help us better understand current needs and inform future decision-making around TCH access.

The survey takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete and will remain open until Friday, September 18 at 5 p.m.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE: Balbo Street Access at Sullivan Avenue

Please be advised that access to Balbo Street from Sullivan Avenue will be closed from Wednesday, September 2 to Friday, September 11 due to ongoing water and sewer upgrades on Sullivan Avenue.

During this time, Balbo Street will operate as a two-way street, with access available from Airport Boulevard only.

Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and follow all posted signage.

NOTICE – Application Withdrawn – 271 Magee Road, Gander, NL

The Town of Gander advises that the application regarding the proposed use of 271 Magee Road for transitional and supportive housing has been withdrawn by the applicant.

As a result, the discretionary use application will not proceed for consideration by Town Council, and no further public representations are required in relation to this application.

The Town thanks residents who provided feedback through the discretionary use process.

This September, Gander will come together to mark 25 years since September 11, 2001, and Operation Yellow Ribbon.

Two special events will take place as part of the 25th anniversary commemorations.

Untold Stories – Reconnected will bring together “Plane People,” local residents and others who experienced the events of September 11, 2001, firsthand. Through personal reflections and shared memories, speakers will revisit the six days that changed Gander and the lives of thousands of passengers and crew.

Special guest The Honourable David Collenette, Canada’s Minister of Transport on September 11, 2001, will also share his firsthand perspective on the events of that day and Canada’s response.

25th Anniversary Commemoration Service

Friday, September 11, 2026 | 2 p.m.
Steele Community Centre

The service will bring together survivors, family members, “Plane People,” volunteers, first responders, military representatives, dignitaries and members of the public.

Through music, personal reflections, tributes and ceremonial elements, we will remember the lives lost, honour those who responded and served, and commemorate the compassion shown by Gander and surrounding communities during Operation Yellow Ribbon.

Untold Stories – Reconnected brings together “Plane People,” local residents, and others who experienced the events of September 11, 2001, firsthand. Through personal reflections and shared memories, they will revisit the six unforgettable days that changed Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the lives of thousands of passengers and crew who found themselves welcomed into communities across Canada.

We are pleased to welcome The Honourable David Collenette, Canada’s Minister of Transport on September 11, 2001, as a special guest. Minister Collenette will share his firsthand perspective on the events of that day and Canada’s unprecedented response to the thousands of passengers diverted to communities across the country.

Through stories of compassion, resilience, unexpected connections, and hope, speakers will share experiences that have remained largely untold over the past 25 years.

This special evening offers a deeply personal look at the human side of September 11 and the remarkable response of the people of Gander and surrounding communities. It is an opportunity to hear the voices behind the history, reflect on the connections formed during those six unforgettable days, and help preserve these stories for generations to come.

Join us for an evening of reflection, gratitude, and storytelling as we reconnect with the people and memories at the heart of one of the most extraordinary stories to emerge from one of the world’s darkest days.

The 25th Anniversary Commemoration Service will take place September 11, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Steele Community Centre.
