About the Department

Gander Fire Rescue is here to protect our community through emergency response, fire prevention, inspections, training and public education.

The department includes approximately 10 full-time staff and 40 volunteer firefighters who work together to respond when help is needed. Their service extends throughout the Town of Gander and along nearby highways, where they support fire, rescue and other emergency operations.

Gander Fire Rescue also monitors a number of alarm systems in private and government-owned buildings and works closely with police and ambulance services to support a coordinated response during emergencies.

Equipment and Emergency Response

Gander Fire Rescue is located at 85 Raynham Avenue and is equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies.

The department’s fleet includes:

• Two triple-combination pumper trucks
• A quint aerial ladder and pumper truck
• A rescue and pumper unit
• An additional pumper truck
• A mobile command vehicle
• A four-wheel-drive pickup truck
• Dedicated vehicles for the Fire Chief and Fire Inspector

This equipment helps the department respond safely and effectively to fires, rescues, motor vehicle incidents and other emergencies in and around Gander.

Training

Gander Fire Rescue operates its own training facility just west of the community. The facility is recognized by provincial fire authorities and supports firefighter training and certification.

Regular training helps ensure that both full-time and volunteer members are prepared to respond to a wide range of situations.

Fire Prevention and Inspections

Emergency response is only one part of the department’s work. Gander Fire Rescue also provides:
