New remembrance crosswalk in Gander to honour veterans
GANDER, N.L. – Sept. 18, 2025 – Representatives from Council, the Gander Royal Canadian Legion, and 9 Wing gathered today to unveil Gander's new Remembrance Crosswalk, located on Lindbergh Road near Gander Heritage Memorial Park.
This commemorative crosswalk, featuring red and white with the silhouette of a soldier, honours Canada’s veterans and Gander’s proud military history. Purposefully positioned to lead directly into Gander Heritage Memorial Park, it stands as a lasting tribute within the community.
“The Remembrance Crosswalk is a visible reminder of the deep respect this community holds for those who have served. Gander’s history and identity are closely tied to military service, and this crosswalk ensures that recognition and gratitude remain part of our everyday lives.”
Mayor Percy Farwell, Town of Gander
“This Remembrance Crosswalk is more than a tribute – it is a shared bond between the Town of Gander, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Canadian Armed Forces. Together, it stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by so many Canadians, and the enduring connection between community and service.”
Brian Cottrell, Vice President, Gander Royal Canadian Legion Branch
“This crosswalk stands as a daily reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who wore the uniform in defence of Canada. As we walk across it, may we carry forward their legacy with gratitude, honour, and a renewed commitment to never forget the price of our freedom.”
Lieutenant-Colonel Bob Mitchell, CD, Commander, 9 Wing Gander
